:05, happening as we speak, a big sink hole on highway 87 in san jose. that's right along the southbound side of the highway near west virginia street. work crews are out there and so is ktvu tara moyarti but what's the very latest? >> workers workers will not continue work until engineers arrive. we had to move because it was simply too dangerous. you can see where they've blocked out one southbound lane of 87 on the left and then one lane of alma avenue on the right. the sink hole is about 30 feet wide. there's a big gap underneath the median. now caltrans discovered the problem tuesday. they came out. they poured some gravel. sort of a band aid fix. and last night they compressed the gravel and found it sank. you can see where the concrete is exposed now. there's a huge crack running up and down on that roadway. they shutdown some lanes on the freeway. we are close to west virginia street. just to give you an idea where we are on 87. crews are expected to be out here all morning repairing the sink hole. damage is pretty extensive. the highway seems to be moving up. right now let's check i

here you can see the sinkhole is pretty big, about 30 feet across and you can actually put your hand underneath the median there and it will come out on the other side. it is -- it has forced crews to shut down one lane of highway 87 southbound in the alma avenue on-ramp. caltrans discovered the problem tuesday, they came out, they poured some gravel and then last night they compressed that gravel and found that it sunk about a foot below the earth's surface and you can see where that concrete is exposed, all the cracks there. so they shut down some lanes on the freeway at 9:00 last night. we are close to west virginia street just to give you an idea of where we are on 87, and again one southbound lane is closed as is the alma avenue off-ramp. but the on-ramp from 280 is open and crews are expected to be out here all morning repairing the sinkhole so you definitely want to avoid this area. we would suggest using south alma avenue to -- expressway to 87 or also take monterey road as well and cut across to west capitol expressway to 87th. live in san jose, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu chann

below average. system kind of rotating around the big old low up in oregon is right there might produce more than just some low clouds for mendocino county and lake county. possible mostly cloudy skies later on as the tail end of that system kind of swings by. it's also not only giving low clouds but any time you get a little system coming in that enhances the drizzle. a lot of 50s out there with local drizzle and temperatures even with the overcast it's cool. and there's a no doubt about it sea breeze. boot scooting it all the way out to the sacramento valley. temperatures out there have come way down as well. that's pretty impressive system for this time of year. i mean last in june we had two of those systems that came down and visited us, gave us rain. remember rain beginning in june end of june. this time of year it's almost a miracle it makes it that far. the end result for us is a lot of low clouds and drizzle. very, very cool pattern for july. afternoon highs 50s 60s 70s i did go with one 80 that was clear lake but i almost went 79 there. and there will be 60s and 70s in between
a big clean up to do. a fire broke out at daly city's skyline elementary school on christian avenue. this happened about 11:30 last night. just look at the pictures. the portable classroom went up in flames. the damage includes the building itself, everything inside, books, chairs, audio- visual equipment. took firefighters about 15 minutes to put it out. authorities don't know what started the fire but it apparently started outside of the portable building. no word of any injuries and students by the way return to school on august 17th. >>> meantime firefighters say an overnight house fire in san francisco caused about $350,000 damage. this fire started just before 2:30 this morning at a home on melrose avenue. the flames then spread to a second house. took firefighters about 20 minutes to contain that one alarm fire. no injuries have been reported. authorities think the fire started in the living room of the first house, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation. >>> the book written by kidnap victim jaycee dugard does not go on sale for another day but it is already

't have the big surge like we've had the last couple of mornings. we will start off with sunshine. sunrise over the big city. i look for inland temps today. normal high temps for july 20th. we are forecasting 92. it has been awhile since we've been over that number. calistoga 91 average this time of year. and gilroy 88 went slightly above. went 90 degrees. most locations inland temps have been so far below for awhile. coastal temperatures haven't been that far. they have been near average. there is still patchy fog going down the coast. you have to give it credit when the fog wants to form there is nothing to support it. so 50s and 60s on the temps. however, here comes another low dropping in so today looks like a warmup and then we will start to back off a little bit and see temperatures slide down. today unless you are right by the waters edge there won't be that much fog. it will be sunny and warmer for many. the fog will be enhancing and increasing. thick fog. mainly hugging the coast. and inland temps have no problem warming up today. so 60s, 70s, 80s, and low 90s. livermore right at
